Description: I hate 4Kids and their spineless paranoia. I mean, seriously. Mr. Popo has been, for the past 20 years, the adorable pudgy genie-esque servant to Kami. I giggle when I see him. I love watching DBZ Kai on Nicktoons every Wednesday and Thursday. It helps get me through the day. I learned that CW 4Kids had a Saturday morning program set up called Toonzai, where they play some anime, including Yu-Gi-Oh! and Sonic X. Even though I despise 4Kids, I love the nostalgia that I get from this morning programming. In August, they started airing DBZ Kai (calling each one a "new episode", even though it had played on Nicktoons at least 2 months before). It's part of the morning setup, so I thought "Meh, why not." and went ahead and watched it along with the other shows. But right off the bat, I started to notice differences between the airings on Nicktoons and 4Kids. As expected, of course. But then it came to the particular episode in which Piccolo was brought back to life via the dragon balls, which by default brought back Kami, to the delight of a certain Mr. Popo. When the scene changed to show Kami coming back, it started off with Mr. Popo watering some sort of little flower and then chasing a butterfly like his ditzy self. Instantly my eyes were met with a retna-burning contrast of blue fighting blue, as Popo's skin was changed to a cerulean that was bloody obvious, especially when it fought with the color of the sky. At first I doubted myself and thought that maybe it was just the lighting and that I was seeing things. Nope. Mr. Popo was blue. Blue as the damn sky. Because black skin doesn't exist in the 4Kids universe. They did this exact same thing to the pokemon Jinx, who originally had black skin, which they changed to PURPLE. I'm so thankful that Nicktoons did not do that. Nicktoons is no where near as squimish as 4Kids, and only censor what really needs to be censored, as it should be. 4Kids, what the hell. You ruined little Mr. Popo.
